Blenheim Palace

Photo of Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace, known as 'Britain's Greatest Palace', is a World Heritage site. The Palace is home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough and is also the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The famous Blenheim Palace was created to celebrate victory over the French during the wars of the Spanish Succession in the early 1700’s.

On the first floor "Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story" brings to life enticing and compelling tales that have accumulated over the past 300 years. It is however, Winston Churchill who remains the most famous figure in the history of Blenheim Palace. From the room where he was born to his gravestone, Blenheim Palace is alive with "Churchillian" memorabilia, artifacts, portraits and historical facts and figures about his life.

The rooms in Blenheim Palace include: the Saloon, which is the dining room used only on Christmas Day, the Long Library, which displays some of the finest stucco ceiling decoration within Blenheim Palace and the three State Rooms.

Blenheim Palace has been described as a "unique example of English Baroque architecture" with a contrast between the immense size of the palace and the delicate carvings showing meticulous attention to detail.

Moving through the beautiful state rooms within Blenheim Palace, there are amazing and expansive assortments of porcelain, portraits, furniture and tapestries along with examples of talented craftsmanship and more treasures collected over the last 300 years.

Blenheim Palace is surrounded by fountains, lakes and many gardens including the recently restored 'Secret Garden'. A miniature train connects Blenheim Palace to the Pleasure Gardens where various activities are located including the Marlborough Maze, the Butterfly House, the Lavender Garden, the Adventure Playground for children and Blenheim Bygones exhibition.

Set in 2100 acres of beautiful parkland landscaped by 'Capability' Brown and extensive lawns surrounding Blenheim Palace, the exquisite Baroque Palace is a "must see" destination for all visitors to the area.
