Moreton-in-Marsh

Moreton-in-Marsh is one of the principal market towns in the northern Cotswolds situated on the Fosse Way. Moreton-in-Marsh grew as a market town from the early 13th century. It has a wide main street, narrow burgage plots and back lanes. The markets still run every Tuesday, with about 200 stalls. This attracts many visitors to see the traditional busy markets and is well worth a visit.
Moreton-in-Marsh has been a traveller’s town for at least 1700 years as there are several pubs, hotels, elegant eighteenth-century inns, restaurants, tea-shops and accommodation ranging from bed and breakfasts to holiday cottages in the surrounding area. The oldest building in Moreton-in-Marsh is likely to be the sixteenth-century Curfew tower on the High Street although many other old buildings in Moreton-in-Marsh date from the 17th and 18th centuries. In Moreton-in-Marsh, many of the buildings are in the traditional Cotswold stone which adds to the unique atmosphere of Moreton-in-marsh. Moreton-in-Marsh has numerous antique shops and several hotels in the town centre.
The low density of population in Moreton-in-Marsh and the extent of history make it a place that you will want to visit again and again.
