Bath Wins Three European Travel Awards

23 April 2008

In the recent Sunday Times Travel Magazine Reader Awards the City of Bath won the following awards:

  • 6th in the Best European City category
  • The Best UK Hotel, The Royal Crescent Hotel, situated in the centre of one of Europe's finest 18th Century architectural masterpieces the Royal Crescent.
  • Thermae Bath Spa as the 'Best UK Spa'.

These awards follow hot on the heels of a recent survey by TripAdvisor where the city appeared at 4th place in the 'Top 25 Europe Destinations' and 14th in the 'Top 100 World Destinations' categories.

Bath is famous for its natural thermal springs and the city's spa history can be explored at the Roman Baths, one of the UK's top visitor attractions, where you guests can walk where Romans walked on ancient stone paths, see Roman drains still in action today and explore the original baths that attracted people to the city from far and wide.

Bath also boasts magnificant architecture such as The Circus and Pulteney Bridge - one of the only bridges in the world with shops built into it and a huge variety of restaurants serving food from around the globe, an impressive selection of boutique and independent shops and top attractions including the American Museum, The Jane Austen Centre and the Fashion Museum, to name a few.

Robin Bischert, Chief Executive of Bath Tourism Plus says, "We are extremely pleased with the TripAdvisor and Sunday Times awards, based on real people's reviews, which show that Bath is a very unique place to visit and a city that competes with some of the most popular destinations around the world. Visitors are drawn here to see the wonderful Georgian architecture and Roman history and with a great offering of restaurants, top attractions, superb accommodation and beautiful countryside on its doorstep, Bath is a very special city. In addition Bath is the only place in the country to have natural thermal water as well as being designated a World Heritage Site, which distinguishes itself from many other destinations not only in the UK but also around the world".
